Description:
Reporting to the Sustainable Fisheries and Markets Program Director, the Program Assistant is responsible for providing general and Russian-language program support for Wild Salmon Center’s Sustainable Fisheries and Markets Initiative.

This program is using innovative market-based approaches to support salmon conservation and sustainable fisheries in the Russian Far East and across the Pacific Rim. This is a full time position.

The ideal candidate will be independent and entrepreneurial and will have real world experience working or studying in Russia. Understanding the challenges and opportunities of working in the Russian Federation is a key to success in this position. The candidate should also have the ability to multitask, and have strong project management and Russian language skills.

A background in international fisheries issues (for example, experience working as a fisheries observer, or within the seafood industry) and market incentives such as third party certification will be considered a valuable plus.

Provide project coordination and administrative support.
Assist in communications and correspondence with US and Russian colleagues, partners and grant recipients.
Assist with logistical planning and coordination of WSC events such as international exchanges, inter-organizational strategy sessions, regional workshops and local events.
Russian-English language support.
Other tasks as required.

Qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Detail oriented.
Strong Russian language skills, both written and verbal.
Creativity and problem solving ability.
Computer skills (Internet, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets and database).
Personal commitment to environmental and social justice.
Experience working cross-culturally.
Ability to work and travel independently.
Experience in seafood industry and/or market based conservation a plus.
Sense of humor is essential!

Student Support Specialist - Russian

Description: 
Position is hourly, nonexempt, 15 hours per week. Candidate is responsible for program's direct contact with adolescent and teenage youths and their parents/guardians, case managers, schools, and other support services. Student Support Specialist will outreach into Portland's Eastern European community to enroll students (12-18 years) in program for mentoring services. 


Qualifications:
Specialist must have excellent writing, reading, and speaking skills in English; also must be verbally fluent in Russian. Must be computer literate and able to use Microsoft Word. Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends. Able to work as a team providing mentee and mentor support services.

Must have attended and completed U.S. high school. Ideal candidate currently holds Associate degree/diploma from a U.S. institution or working toward such a degree (minimum) at a U.S. institution. Candidate is culturally competent to work with target population and in multicultural environment. Has valid U.S. driver license and insurance.

Description:
Contact Representatives interview beneficiaries and the general public to determine the nature of their problem; explain technical information, gather facts and resolve problems relating to Social Security programs. As the first point of contact, you are responsible for speaking with beneficiaries or inquirers in person or by telephone to provide information on SSA laws, rules and regulations. This includes obtaining information in order to determine eligibility and entitlement for programs administered by SSA, and using state-of-the-art computer technology to access and update information about claims.

Qualifications:
This bilingual position requires the ability to speak both Russian and English fluently.

GS-5: Requires 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience providing straightforward factual information which involves basic interpretation and application of policies and guidelines related to a complex or regulatory program.

GS-6: Requires 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience in the application and interpretation of complex technical or regulatory laws, rules, regulations, or written guidelines and explaining these requirements to a variety of individuals.

This position is part-time at 20 hours per week. The Program Services Coordinator will assist the Asset Development Program and New American Agriculture Program. This position will contribute to the strategy, systems development, relationship development, administration and organizational development of the MCNW team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Job responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Assist with program evaluation and grant information tracking and reporting by gathering information from participants and program partners

Manage data entry and update of Asset Development program statistics on a regular basis

Prepare monthly statements, newsletters and appropriate written correspondence

Manage and maintain the two databases (Vista Share and I-Trac)

Maintain current and accurate files, running various reports and spreadsheets

Support clients in business plan development and accessing other MCNW programs

Assist in new grant proposals as needed

Build MCNW strategy, visibility and marketing efforts with other community development organizations working with refugee and immigrant populations, and directly with those populations.

Perform interpretations and translations

Interact proactively with staff to implement training to clients from non-English speaking backgrounds
 

Qualifications:
College degree or demonstrated work history in data management and administration.

Microsoft Office

Valid driver’s license

Some evening and weekend hours required

Fluent written and spoken Russian language skills preferred

Ability to work independently and cooperatively

Experience working independently and with databases

Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel

Demonstrated experience with a diverse client base of low-income people and their needs

Willingness and interest in working outside in small farm environment

Grant writing and grant reporting skills

Business experience a plus
