Title: Statistical Clerk (Bilingual Telephone Interviewer)

Compensation: $13.41 - $17.43 hourly

Description:
This position is located in the Jeffersonville Telephone Center (JTC), at the National Processing Center (NPC), which has as its function telephone interviewing activities. Incumbent interacts with respondents in English and a second language; communicates orally and in writing in English and a foreign language; performs telephone interviews for a wide variety of surveys; receives extensive training on the assigned surveys, interviewing techniques, and computer terminal operations techniques; telephones respondents and explains the purpose of the survey or census in order to gain cooperation; obtains and records the data on a questionaire or computer; assures accurate and complete answers to all questions insofar as possible; in addition to calling previously interviewed households, the incumbent may conduct "cold contact" interview; this involves dialing a number selected randomly by the computer, gaining the cooperation of, and conducting the interview with respondents who have had no advanced notice; contacts previous refusals to persuade the individual to cooperate by providing a thorough explanation of the confidentiality and uses of the survey data; may be required to conduct telephone research activities to obtain current status of address, location of sample person, occupant information, and identification of respondent telephone numbers; and as required, reviews information for completeness, edits or otherwise assists in clerical processing and/or data entry.
 

Qualifications:
You qualify at the grade 04 level if you meet the basic requirements and possess 52 weeks of general experience.  General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work
that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.  Examples of other work include cashier, customer service positions, and trade positions where completing paperwork is a regular and recurring part of the job.

Education Substitution for general experience:  Successful completion of two full years of study above the high school level in an accredited college, university or business, secretarial, or technical school may be substituted for the required general experience.  Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet the required experience qualifications.  TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY THE CLOSING DATE.
