Description:
The ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) is currently seeking a candidate for its International Volunteer Internship Program in the Europe and Eurasia Division to work primarily on its program in Ukraine. The Ukraine internship is well suited for recent graduates or students currently enrolled in master's or law programs. Candidates should have a proven background and interest in the region and international affairs and have excellent written and cross-cultural communication skills.


ABA ROLI's program in Ukraine currently aims to improve the system of continuing legal education for lawyers, provides expertise and analyses to governmental bodies to ensure compliance with human rights standards in the area of criminal law reform, and works to increase access to justice and legal representative for citizens throughout the country. The intern will be a key member of the Ukraine office and will assist in core responsibilities such as maintaining program records, writing reports, using evaluation tools to assess program progress, organizing administrative functions, conducting background research for programs and proposals, , attending meetings with stakeholders, and monitoring current events pertaining to ABA ROLI programming in the country.


The Ukraine internship will provide the opportunity to acquire knowledge of the U.S. Government assistance process, legal reform initiatives and priorities for democratization in the country, and international development in general. The intern will be under direct supervision of the ABA ROLI Country Director in Ukraine, and will attend meetings and events with members of staff and other interns.
 

Qualifications:
  • currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from a master's or law program
  • highly motivated and proactive in engaging program goalswith independent initiative
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • knowledge and interest in political developments and the transition process in Eastern Europe, particularly in Ukraine
  • organized, analytical, priority-minded, and detail-oriented
  • flexibility to work as a group member as well as independently and able to communicate with others from various backgrounds
  • language skills in Russian or Ukrainian preferred
