Description:
Pacific Environment’s Russia Program supports grassroots Russian environmental organizations, primarily in Siberia and the Russian Far East. The Grants Manager is primarily responsible for coordinating the Russia Program subgranting process and promoting capacity building among partners. Subgrant management includes reviewing proposals, preparing grant agreements and payments, monitoring reporting and compliance, and maintaining Pacific Environment’s subgrants database. Traditional capacity building involves helping partners develop skills in organizational management, including fundraising, leadership, staff development, budgeting, and strategic planning. The Grants Manager will be a full member of the Russia Team and will be responsible for providing research, writing, translation, and logistical support for Pacific Environment’s Russia Program. The Grants Manager will be based in Pacific Environment's main office in San Francisco, California, and will report to the Russia Program Director.



Responsibilities



  • Coordinating the Russia subgranting process, including reviewing proposals, preparing and issuing grant agreements and payments, monitoring grantee reporting and compliance, maintaining grants database and related systems, ensuring US legal compliance and audit preparedness related to grant-making, and training program staff in grants process and systems;






  • In cooperation with Pacific Environment’s Financial Consultant and Operations Manager, maintaining financial information about subgrant commitments;






  • Working with staff and board to document subgrantee progress on key environmental issues, helping the Program Director prepare outreach materials as needed;






  • Preparing monthly and quarterly reports on subgrant activities for staff and board;






  • Performing basic office tasks including email account management, listserv and website maintenance and updates, data entry, answering information requests, communicating with Russian partners, maintaining the library of Russian-language materials, and distributing information to staff and outside parties;






  • Monitoring the organizational health of partner groups in Russia and tailoring relationship-based coaching or training to help groups develop skills in leadership, budgeting, strategic planning, staff development, etc.;






  • Assisting the Russia Program Director with various administrative tasks as needed;






  • Helping with the production and dissemination of reports, project and campaign outreach materials, including policy papers, press releases, community handbooks, fact sheets, web pages, and case studies;






  • Providing logistical support for outside (national & international) events such as meetings, inter-organizational strategy sessions, fact-finding missions, site visits, and regional workshops; and






  • Other tasks as needed.






Qualifications:



  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;






  • Fluent speaking, reading, and writing skills in Russian and English;






  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office and some database experience;






  • Ability to juggle a variety of tasks simultaneously and work under pressure both as a part of a team and independently;






  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills and excellent attention to detail;






  • Superb interpersonal skills and ease in working cooperatively with people of different cultures;






  • Ability to travel nationally and/or internationally 5-10 weeks per year;






  • Authorized to work in the United States;






  • Personal commitment to environmental and social justice and a sense of humor.



This position is ideally suited for someone with a BA or BS in Russian, environmental studies, or international affairs and who has at least 2-3 years of experience working with a not-for-profit organization. The position is full time and provides a competitive salary plus an excellent benefits package.
