Title: Visitor Use Assistant

Location: Sitka & Mount Edgecumbe, AK

Salary: $28,726 - $37,340 annually plus federal benefits

Description:
You will be serving as a uniformed, front-lined representative of the National Park Service. You operate the park's visitor center and greet visitors at the Russian Bishop's house, collecting and verifying use fees, and issuing park passes and follow established guidelines for handling government funds. Reconciles shifts, prepares deposits and remittances, coducts fee audits, maintains stock and supply inventories, and manages change funds. Answer visitor’s questions, assist visitors with bookstore purchases and operates a cash register. Answer telephone inquiries. Presents guided tours of the historic Russian Bishop's house and conducts roving interpretation on park trails and grounds. Assist with special interpretive programs or projects.

Qualifications:
Specialized Experience and/or Education: You must have acquired certain higher level education or specialized experience to qualify for the GS-05 grade level of this position. This qualifying education and/or experience can be met through any of the following:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of a Visitor Use Assistant. Examples of specialized experience are, performing fee collection activities for museum, public visitor-oriented fee operation, providing recreation program support activities, or public relations work.

Education: You must have four years of education above high school (120 semester hour or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor’s degree in any field of study.

Equivalent Combination of Education and Experience: You must have a combination of experience and education as describe above. Only the education above the first 60 hours is creditable. The total of the combination of experience and education must equal 100%.
